Shop Local: Brazen Boudoir

Jennifer Lazos
I love boudoir photography. (And all you naysayers can just hush!)

Sometimes in this life we are fortunate enough to meet people that create a spark in us and change us for the better. In 2015, I was fortunate enough to meet two such women. They have sparked confidence in me, and have made me come out of my shell even more.

A Boudoir Session was always on my bucket list...but I could never work up the courage to do it. I simply didn’t have the body for it. I mean, surely, I couldn’t...right?

One night, my friend Stevie posted that she was looking for friends to join her for a boudoir shoot, as a girls’ day. I so wanted to, but immediately started thinking of all the things women think... “I’m too big.” “What would I even wear?” And so on and so forth...

To boot, at the time, I was going through a self-image crisis. While, since my early twenties, I hadn’t really lacked confidence (which I know may surprise some)...the past year had wreaked havoc on my body. I’d lost a ton of weight...been diagnosed with Graves’ Disease...nuked my thyroid...and then gained the weight back. And while I’d never, ever, in my entire life been thin...the weight came back different...and had left my body not feeling like my own. Bible, y’all, one night I found myself crying over a shirt....a shirt.

Even though it was WAY out of my comfort zone at the time...I decided to bite the bullet and just do it. To this day, I am SO glad that I did.

In agreeing to the shoot, I got beautiful images of myself that nearly brought me to tears; I gained some of my self-confidence back; and I met two people that I now consider dear friends...Jennifer and Danielle.

Danielle was a miracle worker. She laughed and joked as she was doing my hair and makeup...and tried to put me at ease, as I was on the verge of sweating bullets.

Jennifer was freaking fabulous. She offered suggestions on what to wear. During the session, she joked to keep my nerves at bay. She gave directions, and helped pose. And y’all, she just has an eye for this.

When I was finally able to see the images, I was awestruck. I had something tangible, to look at and see that I am beautiful, I am sexy, even on days where I feel like a garbage truck.

Since that first session, I have been back many times. Jennifer never ceases to amaze me.

If you have ever thought about doing a shoot....all I can say to you is: JUST DO IT. You won’t regret it. I promise!

For those of you looking for something unique...confidence building...or merely something to help your loved one cross it off their bucket list...consider a gift certificate to Jennifer!

Jenn has also been doing quite a few weddings lately, and I have been so impressed in the images I've seen thus far.  If you or someone you know is getting married in 2019, keep Jenn in mind!!!
