Mama Says: It's Monday...

Rheba, Me, and Aleta on our trip to Clarksville, Tennessee to see friends.
So, here it is Monday again.  I have to write (let me rephrase that) I have the privilege of writing for Aleta's blog.  Once again, I was not given any specific topic.

Today, I decided to talk about success as a mother or sometimes my lack of success.

Our expectations change as our children grow.  When Aleta was small, I could come home, get supper done and sit down.  That was as far as it went.  For some reason, she didn't want me to eat my evening meal, she would cry and fuss.  Jackie would eat his hot supper, and I would get up, leave my supper, and take care of her.  I could always eat mine later, when it was cold, then clean up the kitchen.  I deemed it success when I finally got to sit down with Jackie and eat with him.

There are many milestones in rearing children, many ups and downs.  And many times of adjusting your techniques (as two kids are never the same) and sometimes changing your own goals.

As my children were growing up, I tried to instill in them kindness.  So, on one trip to Walmart, an older woman complimented Rheba on her beautiful blue eyes.  Rheba replied with "I love your pretty purple hair!"  Bless her heart, the lady did have a purplish tint to her hair and Rheba was trying to be kind.

Another goal of mine, to make sure my kids realized that there consequences to their decisions, so to try and consider wisely when making decisions.  I also wanted them to think before they spoke.  You can't take back your words and sometimes the hurt they cause can last a lifetime.

Another of my goals for them is to create responsible, productive adults.  This is the one that we are still working on.  Both Aleta and Rheba have graduated college, and are working.  Adulting is hard.  Every Monday at our house we drag ourselves up, tell ourselves the weekend is over, and it's time for us to be productive citizens.

Adulting...it's so hard to be an example for them when I struggle with this also.

It's Monday, time to adult.  The time changed this weekend, and while I only lost one hour, it feels like I lost at least twelve.

It's Monday...time to adult, time to be a productive citizen.

Until next Monday,
Cynthia Kay
