Well, for those of you who are seeking something fun to do around town on Friday, February 17th, I would like to personally invite you to the Annual FFA Alumni Chili Cook-Off and FFA Cake Auction. The event begins at 5 p.m.
As you are walking into the Ag Shop, you can’t help but notice all of the cakes lining the walkway, steadily enticing the passerbyers. One thing is for sure, around these parts, excellent bakers are NOT in short supply.
It’s a lot of fun every year, to see all of the different types of chili that have been submitted. And let me just say, there is a chili to meet whatever type of hankerin’ you’ve got. Whether it be sweet, spicy, what-have-you, they have a chili for you.
Every year, it is so much fun to watch the bidding on cakes. Lord, they get into it. Whether it be a battle between politicians on Mrs. Faye’s famous cake; a fight over Mrs. Melissa’s Italian Wedding Cake; a bidding war over Brooke's Banana Pudding Cake; or a skirmish over my mama’s infamous Crack puffs, there is no shortage of entertainment.
And y’all, I’m tellin’ you what, sometimes the highest bidders have to pay a pretty penny for that beautiful dessert. I will never forget the year that Mrs. Faye’s Pecan Pie Cake went over $600.
If y'all find yourselves with nothing to do that night, please come out! Eat some chili, bid on a cake, and enjoy the entertainment. It’s a lot of fun, and the money raised goes to an excellent cause: The Chiefland Ag Program.
