Saturday Obsession: Karter Lee

Me and Karter Lee
I had to move my "Sunday Obsession" to Saturday this week...you'll see why tomorrow :)

For those of you who have never met her, meet Karter Lee Sheffield. She may be chunky and look like a linebacker, but she is about the sweetest dog around.

This is who I wanted to do my Sunday Obsession about this week.... This baby rules the roost at the Sheffield Residence.

We got her when she was around 2. She was dumped out at my dad’s job. To the heartless jerks that dumped her out in the middle of a Tropical Storm: I hate you. But I thank you, because without you doing that, I wouldn’t have gotten her.

A sleepy Karter Lee, in Dad's recliner
She was my Dad’s constant companion his last year. Wherever he was, she was. After he passed away, she took to sleeping in his recliner. To the people who think that dogs don’t have feelings…let me tell you, that baby grieved when my dad died.

She is quite possibly the laziest dog you will ever meet…until a) she hears a cheese wrapper or b) you take her to the vet.

Taking her to the vet is quite an undertaking in itself. It’s laughable. I can’t take her by myself. I have to have someone go with me to help. We have to call and let the vet’s office know when we are in the parking lot, because I can’t take her in the lobby. It’s not because she is aggressive, or even anxiety-ridden….she LOVES the vet….She just gets so excited she has me running all over. After the vet visit, let me just tell you, I am DONE for the day. DONE. I need to go home and take a nap.

She thought she needed to help me with laundry.
I ran across these old pictures of her and it hit me right in the feels. I look at her these days, and her face is starting to grey, and she doesn’t get around as easily as she used to. But that heart of hers? It’s as big as ever. The love for her “people” is enormous. And let me just say, the feeling is mutual.

  1. How could anyone dump such a gorgeous dog? Well done to you and your dad for giving her such a great home. I have a dog who loves going to the vets too - it's me who gets nervous! Luckily they have always been reassuring and my dog just laps up all the attention!

    1. I have no idea, Ms. Elvira! Our life has been so full with Karter Lee in it. It's so funny how dogs are at the vet. Some are scared to death, and some absolutely love it. (I think KL loves the attention too!)
